Facilitate Patient Recruitment

Study Design:

Phase II, safety and efficacy study of an anti-angiogenesis product in the treatment of patients with glioblastoma. Treatment regimen required 1-hour infusions 3 times per week, administered within 5-8 hours of reconstitution. Blood draws every other week. Treatment's duration was 6 months.

Issues:

Slow patient enrollment due to strict eligibility criteria and demanding protocol testing and treatment requirements. Study was behind timelines after 6 months of recruitment efforts.

Solution:

CRN’s nursing and pharmacy services compounded, dispensed, delivered and administered drug and drew blood samples for patients on a routine or prn basis beginning 6 months into enrollment period.

Results:

Use of CRN’s homecare services accelerated patient enrollment by 9 months. Study duration was 12 months vs. 21 months. More than 40% of patients used homecare services. Seven sites enrolled patients from out of state.
