Enhance Compliance and Retention
Study Design:
Multiple phase II/III studies, evaluating the safety and efficacy of a product for a rare pulmonary disease. Treatment regimen required daily oral dosing with qw, qow and qm safety blood draws. Treatment duration was up to 2 years.
Issues:
Compliance with frequent blood draw requirement was problematic. Patients’ disease symptoms included fatigue, shortness of breath, faintness, etc. This made site visits difficult since most patients resided some distance from the sites. Blood samples required local and central lab testing. Walk-in service centers for local lab draws were inconsistent and problematic.
Solution:
CRN’s nursing services provided remote blood draws for selected visits for local and central lab sample processing throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Results:
Dramatically impacted dropout rates with only 3% of patients withdrawing from the study who used CRN’s homecare services compared to 67% of patients who were restricted to visiting the site.
